Choosing SAP Business One HANA Over SQL

In my previous blog I spoke about what SAP Business One is all about and its relevance in the current market. In this blog I would like to share my thoughts about why you should run SAP Business One on HANA database over Microsoft SQL database.

SAP HANA database is an in-memory database, i.e., the data storage happens in the computer’s main memory (RAM). This in turn leads to faster Speed and Performance compared to a conventional database.

One of the two main advantages of HANA database that I would like to discuss is it’s enhances analytical capabilities. This database lets you analyse large amount of data in real time and helps produce reports almost immediately based on those data. SAP has also introduced a function called Enterprise Search, a Google-like freestyle search, which reduces the time required to search and find documents quite significantly.

The other major advantage that gives SAP Business One, Version for HANA, a slight edge over SQL database is its Fiori Style Cockpit. This is a style of cockpit that is unique to SAP Business One, Version for HANA. Fiori Style Cockpit is both aesthetically and functionally superior to its SQL counterpart. It comes with a number operational and functional widgets as standard and can be customized according to the user’s preference.

I can’t conclude this blog without addressing one major factor which causes some level of reluctance in buying this version of SAP Business One, the ‘Cost’. SAP Business One, Version for HANA, implementation can be pricier than the SQL version due to infrastructural differences but in my opinion the extra cost is well justified by the plethora of additional features and functions you get when using the HANA database.
